Mr. Barnes has over fifteen years experience in investment banking, private equity investing and corporate strategic planning. His investment banking experience includes merger and acquisition advisory assignments and raising capital for both Fortune 500 companies as well as middle market companies.
Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Barnes was vice president of strategic planning for Protection One, Inc. (NYSE:POI), the second largest life safety and property monitoring company in the world. While with Protection One, Mr. Barnes was responsible for the formulation and execution of the company’s strategic direction and executed over 40 M&A transactions, joint ventures and asset divestitures.
Previously, Mr. Barnes was a director in charge of investment banking services at Coopers & Lybrand Securities L.L.C. Mr. Barnes also spent three years in principal investing with Brentwood Associates and Hancock Park Associates, two Los Angeles-based private equity firms specializing in management-led leveraged buyouts and venture capital. Mr. Barnes began his career as a corporate finance analyst in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc., in both the New York and Los Angeles offices.
Mr. Barnes received his B.A. in sociology and economics, cum laude, from Harvard University and his M.B.A. from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. He is licensed with the NASD as a General Securities Registered Representative (Series 7, 63).
